LAGOP Calls on Mary Landrieu to Demand The Louisiana Democrat Party Withdraw Its Support of Frivolous Anti-Energy Lawsuits

Today, the LAGOP called on Senator Mary Landrieu to demand the Louisiana Democrat Party withdraw its support of the frivolous anti-energy lawsuits that are attacking Louisiana’s energy economy.

Speaking at the Louisiana Oil & Gas Association’s annual meeting in Lake Charles yesterday, Landrieu said, “I know y’all are struggling with the lawsuit issue.”

According to The Advocate, “Landrieu, the first politician to speak Thursday, mostly stayed away from the lawsuit issue.”

Countless lawsuits have been filed on behalf of levee boards and various parish governments against Louisiana oil and gas companies citing years-old production and drilling work as the cause of coastal erosion.

LOGA’s vice president, Gifford Briggs, told members in attendance to recruit their friends to help fight the lawsuits and, “Let them know the oil and gas industry is under attack by these greedy trial lawyers.”

Senator Landrieu has remained quiet on the issue, despite the fact that the Louisiana Democrat Party has been outspoken in its support for the frivolous anti-energy suits.

“Senator Landrieu owes it to the people of Louisiana to call on the Democrat Party and demand it withdraw its support of these ridiculous anti-energy lawsuits,” LAGOP Executive Director Jason Doré said. “Our energy economy puts food on the table for countless Louisianans and as a people we can’t sit idly by as greedy trial lawyers attack the energy industry in order to pad their own pockets.”
